Sundog
are a red-hot rocking blues outfit.
Formed in 2004, their first CD ‘Drive On’
earned them a coveted BBC Radio2 session for the prestigious
Paul Jones Blues Programme.
Sundog
features Jem Turpin on harmonica and
vocals; Ben Robbins on guitar and
vocals; Mark Brown on bass and Simon
Jeffrey on drums.
Ben and Jem first hooked up in the eighties after Jem returned
from living and gigging in the U.S.A.
As part of the Turpin Brothers’ Band,
Paul McCartney loaned them the use of his Hog Hill Mill Studio
to record an album, ‘Life
After Lunch’ which gained them national radio
exposure as well as a booking from McCartney himself to celebrate
the 10th anniversary of his studio. Jem spent the nineties doing
sessions and gigs, including television and film work; working
with the likes of Kenny Craddock (Van Morrison, Ginger Baker,
Lindisfarne, etc), Ghanaian master drummer Nana Tsiboe (One
Giant Leap), Chris Slade (Gary Moore, AC/DC) and composer/producer
Harvey Summers.
He also teamed up with finger-picking acoustic guitar maestro
John Pearson (they have recorded 3 cds together and have just
completed a fourth, which is due for release later in 2006)
appearing at numerous international festivals and gaining more
national radio exposure. Ben
had got together with Mark Brown to perform in a number of rock
outfits performing throughout Europe, doing support slots for
the Groundhogs and Chickenshack, radio roadshow slots, as well
as stints at the Marquee Club. Simon Jeffrey is another
seasoned pro, touring throughout Europe and recording with folk-rock
artist Paul Roland in the late 80’s. The nineties saw
him working as a session drummer before getting the call from
guitar god Bernie Torme (Gillan, Ozzy Osbourne, Atomic Rooster,
Desperado et al), culminating in 2001 live album, Scorched
Earth recorded during their tour of the UK and mainland
Europe.
